RapidRep 5.5 is available - with many new features!

RapidRep, the innovative solution for automated testing and reporting, is now available in version 5.5! We have again incorporated many ideas of clients and consultants into the product.

New in RapidRep 5.5:

  • Models
  • Web Services (SOAP & REST)
  • New default templates with XLSM support
  • Libraries
  • Connection to imbus TestBench
  • Execution Order
  • XML file structure wizard improvements
  • API extensions
  • Script wizard
  • Internal db functions
  • Models

The functionality and usability of models have been improved. Models allow to upload (versions of) data from Excel worksheets into a repository and to retrieve them later via SQL. After the initial setup of the data structure, suitable model data can be uploaded with just three mouse clicks out of all applications. Our clients use models in order to manage rules, test parameters and lookup-tables.

Web Services

The RapidRep Designer allows the definition of SOAP and REST web services and supports all common sorts of authentication. The developer of a report definition can use any number of web services for a test or report. Much emphasis was placed on wizards for generating function calls (WSDL and WADL) and their further processing. The user can quickly make a function call's result (XML or JSON) usable for subsequent processing with the help of X-Query, X-Path, XSLT and SQL, as well as using input wizards and a preview function.

New default templates with XLSM support

We have extended the supplied solutions for data comparison and data quality by a XLSM variant, respectively. This allows for more than 5,000 columns to be compared or rendered.

Libraries

A library is a special report definition that centrally provides public functions. A report definition which wants to use a library function declares this library and assigns a unique alias (namespace). The solutions for data quality and data comparison already use this new concept. Clients can build their own libraries and in this way encapsulate business logic or implement general specifications, for example.

imbus TestBench

The newly developed RapidRep test adapter for the imbus TestBench allows for automated testing of back end objects in connection with the TestBench. The imbus TestBench is a long-established "working environment for test teams of all sizes" and allows the connection to other test systems via an integrated interface.

Execution order

The modeling of dependencies in the script execution has been significantly simplified. In the tab Order of a script, the developer can now explicitly define its predecessors and represent the execution order in a graph. When migrating report definitions from previous versions, RapidRep automatically implements all dependencies in the first run.

XML file structure wizard

Accessing XML content via SQL has been greatly improved in version 5.5. A native XML driver is now being used which we have expanded to include many practically relevant features. Content can be accessed either flat as a table or hierarchically along the XML structure. When accessing data, X-Path expressions can be defined in order to restrict subtrees. Optionally calculated ID columns make it easy to consider the order of XML elements and link content efficiently. You can either open the XML file structure wizard separately or use it in context of the post processing of web services.

API extensions

The developers of report definitions can look forward to many new functions from different areas. Numerous functions have been added in the categories XML and web services but there are also plenty of new functions for iterators to simplify the writing of code. As usual you can find these functions in the context-sensitive proposal list in the RapidRep Designer as well as in the API manual.

Script wizard

This new wizard simplifies the creation of SQL queries from different sources and the optional output of data to an area in an Excel workbook. The wizard is primarily intended for users who want to be guided in the selection of data and do not want to deal with the particularities of different databases.

Internal db functions

Each function of a report definition is potentially also executable within the internal database (H2). This requires only a special labeling of the function and then the parametrizable function code (usually JavaScript or text replacement) can already be executed directly in the database engine. In this way, the language scope of the internal database can be expanded with custom functions.

...and many more improvements in details.
